I've been to The Victoria Room a few times before for their delicious high-tea but never for a chocolate overdose. Yay - chocolate for dinner! I felt like a big kid.
We arrived about 6pm and settled down for a drink at the bar. G had sparkling house and I chose the 'White Rabbit' Alice in Wonderland inspired cocktail. It was served in a pretty little tea cup and was super tasty. (Cognac, dark rum, soy chai tea and nutmeg - served hot or cold).
White Rabbit cocktail - served in a pretty teacup. We got seated and ordered our fondue! You could have an Espresso Martini with the fondue or a different cocktail of your choice. G had the martini and I went with the Rose Petal. Not sure what was in it but it was quite sweet and smooth tasting. (Served in a martini glass with a rose petal floating on top).
Finally the fondue arrived! It was served on a tray with the hot pot of dark chocolate. (I was a little hesitant about dark chocolate as I normally find it way too bitter). There were little bowls with an assortment of dipping options: strawberries, rock melon, kiwi fruit, orange, turkish delight, candied orange slices, banana bread and banana fritter! The dark chocolate wasn't bitter at all and really went well with all the ingredients. My favourites were the turkish delight and banana bread. Although the fruit was great to break up the richness.
We tried but couldn't quite make it through the whole thing. It was quite filling so I recommend going on an empty stomach. G didn't finish his martini as he found it quite bitter and strong. But that said he doesn't drink a lot of spirits or strong coffee.
Overall I would rate the experience 8/10.
The cocktails and food were excellent but I felt the service could have been a tad better. I feel we were stuck in the back corner and we waited a while for wait staff even though it was a quiet night.
